Fall Writing Frenzy Call to Action

Hi Fall Writing Frenzy Friends,

Everyone is a winner.

I’m sure now that the “winners” have been announced, some people are elated, some people are sad, some people are sad for themselves but elated for others, some people are somewhere in between, but I think we ALL have a chance to learn and grow even more. (Stay tuned till the end to find out more about this call to action!)

The idea behind the Fall Writing Frenzy is to get writing flowing, help connect people, and help writers grow in their craft. Check out the full creation story here: https://www.wordsandpics.org/2020/02/special-feature-how-inspiration-spreads.html

Would it be ideal for everyone to connect with a published author, a literary agent, or a Kidlit editor? Of course. And for those of you who are getting to, I can’t wait to see what wonderful things come out of it, but not receiving one of those critiques doesn’t diminish your winning in this contest. If you got writing, loved your work, read other writers’ stories, and connected with other authors, you won!

If you go back and read the winning entries, you’ll be able to learn even more, about lyrical writing, making every word count, connecting beginning to end, shocking twist endings, and more. Does this mean you should try to mimic the style of the winners? Definitely not. But the more you read, the more you learn and grow, and these are some amazing examples! Also please remember, some entries weren’t chosen because they didn’t follow the rules (ie. wasn’t a Kidlit level story), others started super strong but then the ending wasn’t as strong or vice versa, they started a bit rocky but ended super well. Some were great ideas but the writing itself just needed some finessing. Others were great but we just didn’t have enough prizes.

Finally, please remember, Lydia and I can’t win since we’re the judges, but we ALWAYS feel like winners because we adore connecting with you all and feel so honored to read your work. It also inspires us to get writing. I finally did some writing after all the winners were selected and it felt wonderful! So thank you all again for inspiring and I can’t wait until the next contest in spring with Ciara O’Neal Spring Fling Kidlit

And now what you’ve all been waiting for, thinking, what does Kaitlyn have up her sleeve now? (Ha, okay, maybe I’m the only one thinking that hahaha!)

Call to ACTION

Okay, so, here’s the deal. I am totally one of those people who when someone says, “Go read all these 43 entries and study them to learn from them You’ll really learn a lot!” I go, “YES! I’M ON IT! BRING IT ON!” But…then… I never do it. HA! Or best bet, I read like one or two, and I’m like, “Yes, I’m gonna do this!” And then…I get distracted by something else! HAHA! So, I had a new idea

Let’s spend the next few months analyzing these pieces together in small chunks (like 5-8 stories per week) right here on the Math is Everyone Blog! YAY! Every Wednesday!

  1. There is always something to be gained from reading other writers’ works. Studying them a few at a time is less overwhelming (to me, at least) and a great idea!
