Kaitlyn Sanchez’s Favorite Picture Books From 2024

Hey everyone,

Thank you so much for your great response to my post about my favorite novels from 2024. If you haven’t read it yet, feel free to check it out here: my favorite novels from 2024.

Books are just the best, and as you all know, my favorite books are picture books, with their hopefulness, fun, and ways of teaching things in the most interesting ways. So today, I’m excited to share my favorite picture books from 2024!

Please note: these books may have been published in different years as they are books that I enjoyed reading in 2024.

Without further ado…

Finally, I have to share my favorite books of all time: my clients’ books! They’re my favorite every year! Here’s the picture of all of them together at my parents’ house (and yes they bought a library cart to display them all because they are so proud!). My parents are awesome!

Links to all these books can be found here: https://kaitlynleannsanchez.com/literary-clients/

I can’t wait to hear your thoughts, too! Please let me know in the comments which of these picture books you also enjoyed and why. If there’s any you haven’t read, I hope you’re adding them to your list. Also, please let me know some of your favorite picture books you read last year that aren’t listed here!

Thank you all so much for reading, and I can’t wait to hear some of your favorite picture books from 2024!

Sincerely,

Kaitlyn Sanchez

  1. Ah, so many GREAT ones! Chubby Bunny really resonated with me. That is a book my childhood self could have benefited from. I’m adding the books I haven’t read to my online library cart now. Thanks for sharing!

  2. It’s great to be a bookworm! I often wish there were more hours in the day to spend as reading time! I have or have read many I see shown above. One of my most favorites is OLD FRIENDS!

Great idea to share these ! ❤️📖

  3. I’ve only read a couple on your list — good for me because now I have so many to look forward to! I really loved Ahoy! I love how you see the mom and boy use their imagination with what they have at home.

  4. These are great! I’m always surprised that I think I read tons of picture books and then I come across a list like yours and realize I’m still missing many other good ones. A few of my own favorites that come to mind: At the Pond by David Elliott, All Things Mended by Casey Robinson, and Dream Submarine by Charlotte Gunnufson.

Love your parents’ display, congratulations on all the amazing titles you’ve worked on!

  5. Thank you for sharing this. It offers a great reading list for pleasure, as well as mentor texts and/or comp titles. I also find it inspiring to see that text-only authors are represented well on this list. With most agents seeking author/illustrators only, it’s refreshing to see published books do not reflect the same limitations.

  6. OLD FRIENDS and WHATEVER COMES TOMORROW were my favorites this year as well, along with MY GRANDPA, MY TREE, AND ME. I am looking forward to checking out DANCING HANDS and WHISPERS FROM MOTHER EARTH. Thanks for posting these wonderful selections!

  7. I loved the Bakery Dragon! Some of my favorites this year was:

Millie Fleur’s Poison Garden by Christy Mandin

    Big by Vashti Harrison

  8. Your parents really *are* the best! That library cart is such a concrete demonstration of their support for you.

I enjoyed so many of the picture books I read last year, but three that stood out were: WE ARE DEFINITELY HUMAN by X. Fang, I DID SEE A MAMMOTH! by Alex Willmore, and PIRATE & PENGUIN by Mike Allegra.

(I’ll echo what others have said about OLD FRIENDS — such a great book. It wasn’t on my 2024 reading list because I read it when it came out. And now I own a copy!)
